Chocolate Earthquake Cake


Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix well.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and unsalted butter until smooth. Add the powdered sugar and mix well.
  5. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave or on the stovetop, and add to the cream cheese mixture. Stir until well combined.
  6. Pour the chocolate cake batter into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the top of the cake batter.
  8. Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the cream cheese mixture.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
